Use case · the silent party, with phones

A silent party with the phones you already have.

Everyone on the beat, each in their own headphones, and no neighbours disturbed. No rented headsets, no transmitter: SynkEngine plays the same song on every phone at the same instant, over the room's own Wi-Fi, and every guest listens in their own earbuds or headphones, Bluetooth or wired.

A rooftop silent party at night: a DJ at a laptop and a crowd in headphones under string lights
The rooftop · everyone on the beat, the windows next door stay dark
Students at a library table in headphones and earbuds, their phones on the SynkEngine player
The library · share the music quietly, not a sound in the room
A gym crew in headphones on the same count: a treadmill, dumbbells, a squat
The gym · the whole crew in sync, nobody else bothered

How to throw one

  1. One phone hostsOpen SynkEngine, start a party, pick the song (your own files, YouTube or SoundCloud). A Windows PC can host too.
  2. Everyone joins on the Wi-FiGuests join the party from their own phones and queue their songs; the host keeps play, skip and volume. Nothing to install on a laptop, no accounts.
  3. Headphones inEach guest listens in their own earbuds or headphones. Bluetooth is fine: SynkEngine times the device the moment it connects, asks once (earphones or a speaker?) and remembers it. A tap nudges it 5 ms if your ear says so.
  4. DanceEvery phone plays the same instant. Lock the phone, pocket it, walk around: the music keeps playing for everyone. Want the room to hear a speaker? Pair a Bluetooth speaker to any phone and it joins the beat.

Questions

What is a silent party?

A party where the music is in everyone's headphones instead of a loudspeaker: the dance floor dances, the street stays quiet. Traditionally it needs rented wireless headsets and a transmitter.

How does SynkEngine do it with phones?

Every guest's phone plays the same song at the same instant, in sync, over the room's own Wi-Fi; each guest listens in their own earbuds or headphones, Bluetooth or wired. The phones you already have are the headsets.

Does it need a DJ laptop?

No. One phone (or a Windows PC) hosts the party and everyone else joins it. Guests queue songs from their own phones; the host keeps play, skip and volume.

Do Bluetooth earbuds stay in sync?

Yes. Bluetooth adds a delay of its own, different on every device; SynkEngine times the device the moment it connects, asks once whether it's earphones or a speaker, and remembers it per device. Your ear can nudge it 5 ms at a time.

Where else does this work?

A library table sharing music quietly, a gym crew on the same count, a rooftop at night, a sunset on the beach: anywhere the music should stay with the people who want it.

How many phones?

A party is as many phones as join the Wi-Fi; a table, a room, a rooftop. Every phone is also a speaker if you want the room to hear it.
